AAWM Examination Goes Nationwide

Healthcare professionals interested in attaining Board Certification through the American Academy of Wound Management (AAWM) can apply to take the National Wound Care Board Certification Examination at any of 28 different testing centers in Spring of 2000.

"Wound care clinicians and researchers in virtually every part of the country will be able to drive to a nearby testing center," explained AAWM Executive Director Bob McKinlay, MPS. "We're dedicated to elevating the standard of care across the continuum of wound management. We urge wound care professionals to embrace this mission by becoming Certified Wound Specialists through the Examination process."

From 1:00 to 5:00 pm on Friday, March 31, 1999, the National Wound Care Board Certification Examination will be held in Dallas, Texas, prior to the Symposium on Advanced Wound Care and Medical Research Forums. From 9:00 am to 1:00 p.m., on April 1, 2023 the Examination will conducted at Examination Centers coordinated by the Professional Testing Corporation in the following cities:Atlanta, GA; Boston, MA; Charlotte, NC; Chicago, IL; Cleveland, OH; Denver, CO; Detroit, MI; Houston, TX; Las Vegas, NV; Los Angeles, CA; Memphis, TN; Miami, FL; Milwaukee, WI; Minneapolis, MN; New Orleans, LA; New York City, NY; Philadelphia, PA; Phoenix, AZ; Pittsburgh, PA; Raleigh, NC; Salt Lake City, UT; San Diego, CA; San Francisco, CA; Seattle, WA; St. Louis, MO; Tampa, FL and Washington, DC.

Qualified candidates for certification in wound management will be required to achieve a passing score on the examination in order to earn the designation Certified Wound Specialist (CWS). The examination will be relevant to all health care professionals involved in wound care including physicians, nurses and therapists. Multidisciplinary questions will cover the following topics related to wound care: Anatomy, Diagnosis, Psychosocial, General Knowledge, Physiology, Pathophysiology, and Therapeutics.

To qualify for the three levels of certification available through the examination: the Diplomate level requires a doctorate degree from an accredited university, and two years of experience in wound care; the Fellow level requires a Masters degree in related health disciplines, and two years of clinical or research in wound care; the Clinical Associate level requires five years of clinical or research experience in wound care, and a Bachelors degree or licensure in a related health discipline.
